CAPACITY CALCULATOR

WDM understands that it is important for you to know the capabilities of your machine, so we built a calculator for you. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE RATE OUR MACHINES ACCORDING TO PRE-BEND CAPACITY (one pass rolling). This calculator it a tool to help you determine the thickness of the material you can roll (row 5), the width of material you can roll (row 8), or the Yield Strength (PSI) you can roll (row 11) with your machine. Capacity charts are also available upon request! Please reach out to sales@wdmrolls.com

Please use the following steps to get accurate calculations!

  1. Select your machine's series and model# from the dropdown menu (cells A2,B2)

  2. Fill in the inside diameter of part you are desiring to roll in inches (cell C2)

  3. Go to the row with the answer you would like to solve for, (Material Thickness row 5, Material Width row 8, Yield Strength row 11), and fill in the two green cells in that row with the correct answers. For example, if you would like to solve for how thick of material you can roll go to row 5 and fill in E5 with the yield strength of the material you want to roll (in PSI), and fill in F5 with the width of the material you are rolling in inches. Your answer (max material thickness) will be displayed in A5!

Please note the following when using this calculator!

  • The width of material can never exceed the working length of the machine!

  • You should never exceed the max capacity for 1/3 the working length of your machine. For example if your machine is 36" long your should never exceed the max capacity for a 12" wide workpiece! If you are bending a strap that is 4" wide you can not go thicker than what you would if it was 12" wide. The most common reason a machine fails is due to bending a narrow strap and exerting max bending pressure. Because all the force is applied to one spot instead of distributed out on the roll you can bend or break the rolls by increasing the thickness too much when you go narrower.

  • Some materials (especially softer metals) cannot be rolled to as tight of a diameter and still maintain a good quality part. Always contact a WDM representative to help you!

  • This calculator is to be used as a tool. WDM is not responsible for inaccurate use or results!!

These capacities are based on the tonnage capacity of the machine. Because of the spring back of some materials, the minimum diameter may not be attainable. See the following for approximate minimum diameter of different materials.

Wrought Iron/ Mild Steel, Soft Aluminum, Soft Copper

1.1 X Top Roll Dia.

Mild Steel, i.e.

M-1020, Stainless Steel, Monel, Etc.

1.2-1.4 X Top Roll Dia.

Cold Rolled Sheet or Thin Galvanized Sheet i.e. 20-28 ga, Half Hard Copper

1.5 X Top Roll Dia.

Tempered Aluminum, i.e. 6061T6, A.R. Plate, T-1, Other Super Alloys

2+ X Top Roll Dia.
